Gift Ideas for Creatives
With the holiday season coming up, what gifts do you plan on getting for the creatives in your life?
Here are some of my ideas/favorite things* on Amazon right now:
Skylight Frames
My siblings and I pitched in for one of these for my parents, and it has been perfect for photo sharing as a family. There are definitely cheaper options out there, but it felt worth paying the premium price for a higher-quality item. It has a nice user-interface, is easy to share photos to, allows you to quickly scroll through the photos with the touch-screen, and is durable enough to handle the grandkids playing with it every time they go over to my parents’ house. (This biggest downside is that there is a $40-ish annual subscription if you want to be able to send videos to the frame as well.)
Apple Pencil
Even if you would not consider yourself to be an illustrator, there is something super fun about doodling on your iPad, especially if you have the Procreate app.
Travel Totes
We love these travel totes! They are the perfect size for a personal item on a small airline, they come in multiple colors, they pack down really small when empty and they only cost $10! They are also fairly durable and feel like you are getting a high-quality item for a bargain price. We have bought 7 different colored versions of this bag: one for each member of the family, plus a couple extra. We like the Thick series but not the waterproof (they are too weirdly stiff.)
DJI OSMO Mobile Gimbal
If you want to be able to move around or film anything in motion with your phone, then a stabilizer is a must-have. I have loved using this gimbal for a few different video and social media content projects. It also doubles as a tripod, and has an extendable arm to make it taller. It is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it (you have to install the app, and I would recommend watching the training videos.)
Glitter Gel Pens
I’m not going to lie, I bought these for my nine-year-old girl and I ended up stealing a bunch of these. There is something so nostalgic to me about using gel pens. It brought me right back to my 90s childhood with my bright yellow-and-tiger-print Tamagotchi, Lisa Frank art supplies, and my coveted Franklin Covey planner. These are a knock-off brand, but ended up being great quality.
Gravitrax
We love Legos, but they sometimes seem pretty expensive for a one-and-done, “where are we going to store this now?” item. We recently discovered Gravitrax, which is super fun for teaching kids (or work teams!) creative problem-solving. My hubby loves building this with the kids. If you plan on building with more than one person, it is definitely worth getting multiple kits with more pieces. We bought this XXL version and all of our kids will spend hours building out elaborate marble tracks on the kitchen table. One of the only things my 11-year-old boy wants this year is more Gravitrax pieces.
